Magazine Added: Sir! Vol 21 No 02 October 1964

Again, waw5114 scores with a beautiful magazine: Sir! from 1964.

By the late 50's Playboy was all the rage and Playboy imitators were everywhere. Among these was Sir!, although it didn't start that way. Sir! began as a digest-sized sensationalistic news magazine, similar to Tab and Photo Life. Screaming story headlines such as "The Land Where Men Have Babies" and "What a Harem Is Really Like!" were par for the course. Somewhere in the late 1950's, Sir! began the switch from such stories with a smattering of clothed pinups to another copy of Hefner's magazine. Not a particularly bad imitator, Sir! managed to hang on at least until 1969, although it may have been published in the 1970's and beyond. (My data is incomplete.)

So here's a nice mag with some nice pictorials and some interesting stories as well.

Please note that waw5114 has informed us that the magazine is falling apart. The centerfold was missing (a common complaint of old men's magazines), so waw5114 graciously included another centerfold from a different issue of Sir!. If anyone has the missing pages, they would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you, waw5114!

Eric, you say Sir started as

Eric, you say Sir started as a digest. Was it very short lived as a digest? I have a v1 #3 (1943) that looks like it is a standard size mag. I have a Aug 1950 hard copy which is definatly standard size mag. Any ideas?

Sir Magazine

Eric I have a few issues of Sir from late 1970's and one from Nov 1980.
The 1980 one says the Publishers are Histrionic Publications, Published ten times a year.
The magazine is much more Hardcore as they say by this time.
Many more Crotch shots.
I wasn't sure you wanted stuff from the late 70's or 80's posted in here.

Thanks, waw5114, but I'd

Thanks, waw5114, but I'd rather avoid anything after 1974. There are a number of reasons for that. First, the fact that in the mid 70's, girlie magazines began to turn into "skin mags", with cameras pointed up a woman's crotch. Nothing wrong with that per se, but I find such shots repetitive and boring after awhile. It doesn't excite me. Just a personal preference, but one I pretty much feel strongly about.

Secondly, I had to put a stopping point somewhere. I realize that 1974 is somewhat arbitrary, but it's a pretty good point in my mind if nowhere else.

Thirdly, there are copyright issues to consider. Aside from Playboy, no one really cares about images that are 30 years old or older. If anyone even still holds the copyright on them, they either don't know that they do or don't care. The end result is that they'll leave us alone as long as we don't kick up too much dust. The closer we get to the present, the more likely that someone will take exception.

Yeah Playboy is one to avoid but one other one is Penthouse.
I use to post some slide shows on VEOH and one was all Pethouse photo's
and I was asked to remove it.
I don't like the phototography after 1974 anyway.
The 50's had Class even tho I was a little kid back then.
I enjoy them now.
