Relax Vol 10

What can I say about this magazine? Well... Not much, really. I didn't scan it and I don't have much to go on, but I'm going to play Sherlock Holmes here and tell you what I can deduce.

This appears to be one of those digest magazines. In the U.S. they usually contained one picture per page, as this mag does, and often didn't include a date or indicia. That makes it hard to date, but let's try...

It was originally sold in Great Britain, because the printed price on the book is 5'. That's 5 shilling. This means that it was sold before Britain moved to the decimal monetary system (February 15th, 1971). Also, the clothing the women are wearing places the pictures relatively close to that date, no more than 4 years earlier. There's a new, lower price stamped on the book, 20 pence (20p). Since 5p = 1 shilling, the book was marked down from 25p to 20p and (probably) resold.

There are 49 pages, and I know that some pages are missing. Three pages, more than likely. I know this for certain because pages 26 & 27 are the middle of the book. The picture marked 26 & 27 are scanned together to form a single image. Since all folded books must be divisible by four, and the nearest number after 49 that is so divisible is 52, at least three pages were not included in the scan. That probably means that those pages didn't contain pictures or were blank, so the person doing the scan didn't see a reason to include them. Also, if the middle of the book is page 26, there are 52 pages total.

One thing I noticed is that such magazines in Great Britain were far more demure in their images than their American cousins. Not much in the way of nudity. None in fact, although there are a few naughty peeks where the camera is defnitely focused on the (clothed) genetalia or covered-up breasts.

So more of a pin-up magazine than a girlie mag, but still worth a look. Check it out!

I think that's why I like

I think that's why I like the older magazines instead of the gynecological exams in today's magazines.
