Notes:
This is an example of a group of pulps from Eagle and Consolidated in around 1938-1940. As pressure from citizen groups came down on indecent magazines, many publishers left the game or cleaned up their act. At least some public demand remained, though, because a couple small publishers managed to market these pulps under the counter at bookstores instead of the magazine stand. Much and perhaps all of the material in this issue is reprinted from Paris Nights. I would guess that there was some sort of arrangement between the publishers. An oft mis-identified group of pulps and fairly scarce too...

Thu 02/04/10 by darwinThanks CS, I'm a huge fan of the girlie pulps and will be getting more up as I have the time. They mix fun fiction, jokes, naughty line drawings, and art deco photos and sport great pin-up covers. These magazines are just slightly naughty in a very sweet sort of way. Their scarcity and the fact that they were never included in library collections make them a priority candidate for preservation. The girlie pulps are most definitely a predecessor of the modern girlie mag, but they are also a unique form from a particular time. As I get more up, I'll probably get some article-type material going to go along, as these are absolutely my favorite magazines ever ;)
